Sony ha hecho disponible (en japón por el momento) la versión 2.0 del FirmWare del PSP. Aparte de agregar un navegador web (que no entiende Flash), actualizaron casi todas las funciones del PSP, como agregarle soporte para TIFF, GIF, PNG y BMP para las fotos, y ahora soporta MP4 para el audio.


Entre las mejoras añadidas a la versión 2.0 del software, destaca un nuevo navegador web. Accesible desde el menú principal de la PSP, el navegador soporta HTML 4.01 y proporcionará acceso a la mayoría de sitios web.

PSP cuenta además con una red LAN inalámbrica para el juego online y la descarga de software de la Red.

El software permitirá soporte para la descarga de vídeo en formato MPEG-4 AVC. Otras características incluyen la capacidad para transferir fotos desde una PSP a otra por medio de una red LAN inalámbrica y soporte para formatos adicionales, como el formato de audio AAC.

Sony también lanzará una consola PSP blanca, llamada PSP-1000KCW. En la actualidad, la consola sólo está disponible en color negro.
